Overview: What is Educational Epiphany?
Founded by Donyall D. Dickey, Ed.D, Educational Epiphany has recognized the needs of students in key areas, and provides schools and districts with access to high-impact educational resources that promote student achievement and school improvement. Dr. Dickey is a CEO, author, and educator who has led at just about every level in public education. With Dr. Dickey’s unique knowledge, the expansive Educational Epiphany platform was developed with a mission to help kids improve their literacy and bring change to schools and districts throughout the United States.
Website strategy: A complete transformation
Educational Epiphany brought on Adventure House at a pivotal point when they needed not only a new website but a brand transformation. The new website needed to articulate purpose and commitment to schools and districts, demonstrate expertise in literacy and school improvement, feature key products and services, and provide a seamless shopping experience.
Website design
The first phase of any website project includes a discovery meeting to learn new website goals in addition to conducting an audit of the existing website. As a result, a number of core issues were identified that needed to be addressed including:
Website Strategy
  • The UI/UX was in need of an overhaul to ensure the best site experience over all devices
  • The information on each page was cluttered without a clear information hierarchy
  • The overarching messaging needed simplification and a unique brand voice
  • The content was running long and wasn’t written with SEO best practices in mind. SEO was improved with optimized meta tags, H tags, alt tags, and landing page keywords. Broken links needed to be fixed, URLs restructured, and content audited

Since the new website is Educational Epiphany’s main channel in communicating its value as well as a means to shop for instructional materials, the site needed to accomplish these goals:
  • Create a simple user experience (UX) and easy-to-use user interface (UI) and navigation
  • Connect the creative strategy of the site to their differentiators: expertise, experience, connected to their communities, being part of an extended family, and making a difference
  • Ensure all responsive states provided the same functionality and user experience, without compromise
  • Feature light motion graphics in the main header to bring some movement to the main visuals and get attention
  • Ensure the copy was written and edited with SEO best practices in mind, namely incorporating relevant keywords.

Technology and ecommerce platform

The new site was built on a WordPress content management system (CMS) and is hosted by WPEngine.

A number of modules needed to be updated and replaced. One challenge for this build was that the WooCommerce store had been updated in a separate build from the rest of the site. Our development team rose to the challenge and was able to successfully integrate the databases from two separate WordPress builds to complete the final site.
